20 April 2005Today was a busy day the volunteers of the New Hanover Fire Company. A total of four calls kept the company busy.Call #1 - Just after midnight, the New Hanover Fire Company (37) was dispatched with an engine to assist the Limerick Fire Company (54) with a vehicle rescue. E37 primary responsibility was to provide fire suppression in the event the vehicle involved would catch fire. Units remained on scene for almost an hour until the patient was extricated and the accident scene cleared.Call #2 - Around 10 AM the New Hanover Fire Company (37) was dispatched to assist the Sassamansville Fire Company (68) with a leaf fire. Units arrived on scene and extinguished the fire with a hand line and were made available in just under 40 minutes.Call #3 - At about 2:15 the New Hanover Fire Company (37), along with an engine from Sassamansville Fire Company (68), was dispatched to a Vehicle Accident on Big Rd just inside the township line. Two vehicle were involved in a T-Bone collision and callers stated that people may be injured. Fire units arrived on scene, stabilized the vehicles, assisted EMS with patient packaging and removal, and removed fluids and debris from the street. Units were on scene for just under one hour. Photo by Jason Wood Call #4 - Two hours after the company returned from the accident, units were back on the road for an automatic fire alarm. Upon arrival a smoke/heat detector was sounding. Units were on scene for about 15 minutes and no apparent cause was found.Return to Past Incidents Page updated 6 March 2006 |
