11 April 2006 - Station 37
was dispatched to assist the Sassamansville Fire Company (68) with a structure
fire. Many firefighters reported be able to see the column of smoke from their
homes as they responded to the firehouse. Engine 37 responded first and the
order was given to go into defensive operations prior to arrival on the scene.
Engine 37 arrived on location to find Engine 68 operating on the scene with a
fully involved two story structure. Ladder 37 arrived shortly there after and
went into service with the ladder pipe. Due to the remote location of the fire
and it being in such close proximity to the woods, tankers were used to shuttle
water from the nearest adequate water source and field trucks were called to
handle the extension into the woods. The following companies were either on
scene or called in to stand-by for companies there were operating on the scene:
Sassamansville (68), New Hanover (37), Pennsburg (65), Upper Frederick (87),
Gilbertsville (67), Red Hill (71), Lower Frederick (52), Barto (Berks 22), East
Greenville (38), Limerick (54), Ringing Hill (59), FH&L of Boyertown (Berks
15), Bucks 57 and 58, and Schwenksville (73). The Salvation Army canteen unit
was on the scene provideing food for the hungry firefighters and Gilbertsville
Ambulance (332) responded to provide rehab services.
